Weddings have always been very special to me and from a very early age I knew I wanted to design wedding dresses. I completed a degree in Fashion Design, and I have worked for Alice Temperley, COS and Phillipa Lepley. I proudly made my best friends wedding dress as well as my own wedding dress.
Making things by hand for people is such a beautiful way to show them that you care and when I started learning calligraphy it really made sense to me as another way of using my hands. Since starting to learn calligraphy three years ago I have practiced nearly every day, I have learnt from books, workshops and online. I have studied Copperplate Calligraphy, Modern Calligraphy, Brush Lettering and Brush Calligraphy. There is always so much more to learn and next I will be practising Spencerian Script as well as learning to paint with watercolour.
The wonderful thing about calligraphy is it doesn't have to be limited to writing on paper, you can letter on glass, wood and mirrors for example, the only limitation is your imagination. I letter by hand with either nib and ink, brush pens or paint brush and also enjoy scanning in my work to digitise it in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. This enables the work to be printed and reproduced for things such as wedding invitations. It is also a lovely way of combining original artwork with calligraphy.
If you would like to learn calligraphy I teach Modern Calligraphy, Brush Lettering and Flourishing workshops at Tindalls in Newmarket, Ely and Cambridge.
